Goodbye Spring...

It was a lovely spring. Some cold and chilly days, some rainy days, a few too-hot days, but all in all, I really enjoyed it. Easter was very nice, and the grass and trees got so green. The violets, the lilacs...the pleasant evenings when I slept with the windows open.

Rather than June 21st (or round-about), I know a lot of people consider Memorial Day the unofficial start of summer, but for me it was always the first day of summer vacation, once school was out. And even as an adult, if you have kids, it still sort of can feel that way. But it's beein in the 90's and a bit humid, so I guess ~ summer's here!

I have photosensitivity, so I have that love/hate relationship with summer. I get tired of slathering on sunscreen constantly, and the uncomfortable and sore rash I can get, sometimes even with sunscreen. Even when I stay out of the sun, the heat and humidity make me feel ill. But yet there is also that wonderful part of summer. Watermelon, swimming, fishing and boating, cook-outs, popsicles, the smell of chlorine in pools, cool breezes on beautiful summer nights....so, I am looking forward to our homeschool year ending in a few weeks and summer vacation kicking in.

What are some of your favorite things about summer? Does it make you feel nostalgic at all, like when you were a kid during summer break? It makes me feel like that very much so. And the older I get, the more nostalgic I get. I love anything retro or old fashioned now. And even though I don't live at the beach, I enjoy feeling like I do ~ in our little cottage house.

I will start posting some recipes soon. Today we are heading out to a homeschool cook-out and my daughter and I made orange coconut balls and a three bean salad to bring. Don't you hate it when you make something to bring somewhere and it doesn't come out as good as it usually does all the times you make it at home? That is what happened with my bean salad. It's good, but it just doesn't seem as totally awesome as it usally is. And of course, no one will notice because they have never had my three bean salad before, but *I* will know, lol! I probably have a tad bit of OCD because things like this drive me crazy. Oh well. It is still tastey. Just not totally, awesomely delicious. ;)
